Streaming giant Netflix is currently developing a sophisticated new historical drama titled Alexander, which aims to chronicle the extraordinary life of the Macedonian conqueror.
Canadian filmmaker Jacob Tierney has been tapped as the project’s showrunner. The series will be adapted from Annabel Lyon’s acclaimed 2009 novel, The Golden Mean. This narrative explores Alexander’s formative years and adolescence, highlighting his education and personal growth under the tutelage of the legendary Greek philosopher Aristotle.
The most prominent cinematic portrayal of the ruler remains Oliver Stone’s 2004 epic Alexander, featuring Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie. However, that production famously struggled to resonate with audiences, facing a cold reception from critics and disappointing box office returns.
