Insider ‘impressed’ by Saber’s KOTOR remake — Aspyr’s version resembled a ‘poor man’s Fallen Order’

An industry insider anticipates a formal re-reveal in 2026.

Speculation surrounding the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake, which was initially announced five years ago, has intensified once again. A prominent leaker known as 100% Star Wars recently shared updated details regarding the project’s progress. He claims to have viewed internal materials from the version currently under development at Saber Interactive and was “extremely impressed” by the vast majority of what he saw.

According to the source, he has seen both iterations of the game: the now-abandoned project from Aspyr and the current version being built by Saber from the ground up. He praised the decision to restart the development process as the correct move and suggested that a potential re-announcement could be slated for 2026.

Engaging with followers in the comments, the insider clarified that while he cannot disclose specific details, Aspyr’s cancelled version felt more action-heavy—likening it to a “budget Fallen Order” featuring a tactical pause mechanic similar to that of the Final Fantasy VII remake. The specific nature of the combat system in Saber’s current build has not been revealed.

Previously, in a conversation with IGN, Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits confirmed that the remake is “still in active development,” leaving fans to wait for an official gameplay demonstration.
