About this game
Sons of the Forest is an open world survival horror game and the sequel to the popular The Forest. It is built on the Unity engine and first launched in Early Access for PC in February 2023. The protagonist travels to a remote island in search of a missing billionaire and soon finds a nightmare swarming with cannibals.
As in the first game you will gather food, build a fortified shelter, and defend against local tribes of cannibals and mutants. You also need to explore the mysterious island to uncover the cause of events and will discover hidden bunkers and caves with valuable resources. Sons of the Forest supports solo and co-op modes for up to eight players. You can survive together on one server.
- Total freedom of action. The open world lets you do anything and survive your way. There are no pushy NPCs that force a story or quests. You decide where to go and what to do next.
- Dangerous enemies. Face aggressive island inhabitants. Some are cannibals that look almost human and others are terrifying mutants unlike anything familiar. They raid camps and roam everywhere so few places are truly safe. Use many weapons to fight back from bows and spears to pistols stun batons and even a shotgun.
- Building and crafting. Build shelters of any shape by placing logs and planks by hand. Construction is more realistic. A long log can be sawn into boards and a simple stick can be split in half. This lets you realize almost any idea whether a spacious tree fort or a cozy lakeside house.
- Dynamic seasons. Weather and seasons change and affect survival. Summer makes food easier to find such as fresh fish in rivers while winter brings cold and scarcity. Stock up on food and materials in advance since you are not the only one who gets hungry when the frost sets in.
- Co-op mode. Play with friends to make survival easier and more fun. Trade items build a shared fortress and fight side by side against waves of mutants. Co-op supports up to eight players and you can complete the whole game as a team.

Reviews
Games great, hope they keep updating. Been playing since the beginning and love the progress that they already achieved. However the Devs could make this game shine by adding more of a hunting aspect within it, by adding more Predatory animals such as Wolves, Bears, Cougars/Leopards. It would add another food source for the players to go out and hunt but also give players Pelts, Trophies, etc. Plus it would feel more natural to the environment and give a more fun difficult time gathering food. By adding these animals you could do wonders with future updates for the game. Ex:( Eddy Riding on top of the Bear throwing spears at you while charging you on the animal )
I went into Sons of the Forest thinking it was a survival game. Turns out it’s also a horror game, a comedy, and an exercise in bad decision-making.
The first hour? Chopping trees, building a little camp, befriending Kelvin (best AI buddy ever). The second hour? Realizing Kelvin cut down the tree holding up my house. The rest of my time? Wandering through creepy caves, screaming at every noise, and accidentally eating something poisonous.
The game is gorgeous. The forest feels alive, the lighting is stunning, and every sound makes you paranoid. The crafting is deep, the survival mechanics are engaging, and the mutants… well, let’s just say they don’t respect personal space.
After 6 hours, my conclusion is: It’s beautiful, it’s terrifying, and I will 100% die here again.
This was my first real game since switching from console to PC, and Sons of the Forest is amazingly immersive. They do an amazing job of letting the story find if you keep away from spoilers and looking up where items are. It’s an incredible game on its own, but having a friend along to uncover the island’s mysteries makes it ten times better. If you’re looking for a fun survival game that can make you enjoy gaming again, this one absolutely did it for me.
