The drug cartel recruits people in GTA Online
In October 2021, Mexican civil servant Ricardo Mejía announced that drug traffickers were recruiting minors (11-14 years old) as sentinels in popular multiplayer games, including Online.
In November, a Jeep Cherokee carrying 60 kilograms of methamphetamine was stopped at the US-Mexico border in Arizona. Alyssa Navarro, who was driving the vehicle, stated that she did not know about the cargo hidden in the tank. She told how she met a certain George (George) in GTA Online. The man offered to transport electronics for an amount of 2 thousand dollars (depending on the size of the package). It is not yet known how this story will end for her, but it is possible that with a serious prison term.
Modern problems require modern solutions. Drug cartels have always been famous for their invention and ability to achieve the desired result. And now, when a lot of people spend their leisure time playing video games, they have become a convenient tool for attracting recruits or those who are going to turn in to the authorities (it is a common practice for drug dealers to give their “runners” to the authorities – they are interested in much larger deliveries, for which you can donate more than something smaller). It is worth remembering that drug dealing in the game and drug dealing in real life are two different things.
