The root of the problem was Skarsgård’s penchant for enjoying falafel during his work breaks. For Kidman, the sharp, lingering scent of garlic was nearly unbearable. She recalled repeatedly urging the Swedish actor to choose a more neutral lunch—one that didn’t leave such a pungent trail behind.
Kidman admitted that it was a struggle to project romantic chemistry when she was experiencing a genuine sense of physical aversion. It remains a mystery whether Skarsgård ultimately took her culinary advice to heart, but the on-screen friction certainly didn’t hurt his acclaim, as he secured an Emmy for his role.
