The Beyond the Hive expansion is slated for arrival before the end of March.
On March 17, the cooperative shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will undergo a massive transformation with the Beyond the Hive update. This milestone allows players to step beyond the oppressive confines of Tertium Hive for the first time, venturing into the desolate expanses of Atoma Prime within the high-stakes “Expeditions” mode.
Survival in the wastes is a harrowing prospect. The planet’s atmosphere is lethally toxic, strictly limiting the duration characters can endure the open air. Once an objective is secured, squads must summon a Valkyrie transport for a desperate extraction. Unlike the predictable chokepoints of the Hive’s corridors, the open terrain means threats can emerge from any flank, demanding total situational awareness.
The danger escalates with every passing second, as the presence of a strike team draws the attention of warp-spawned monstrosities, including Chaos Spawns and other nightmare entities. Fireteams must master the art of tactical withdrawal and know exactly when to stand their ground, turning every mission into a brutal test of coordination and grit.
The environment itself is a relentless adversary. Aside from the corrosive air, players must contend with sudden dust storms and violent lightning strikes. Scattered safe zones provide a moment’s respite, but these shelters are temporary at best; staying stationary for too long is a death sentence, forcing teams to maintain a frantic pace.
Developer Fatshark has specified that the “Expeditions” mode is designed for veteran Rejects who have attained a high level of experience. Those new to the service of the Inquisition will remain confined within the city walls until they are deemed ready for the horrors of the surface.
