Battlefield 6 Developers Respond to Memes About Paid “AI Slop” Skins and Explain Design Choices

Battlefield 6 developers say some of the details players questioned in the game’s new cosmetics were added on purpose.

Season 5 of Battlefield 6 recently launched with a new battle pass full of cosmetic content. Players went through the new items and noticed a few odd details. One operator wears a strange mask, one item contains a spelling error, and another skin shows a character carrying several identical pistols.

Many players quickly assumed the skins were made with artificial intelligence. The Battlefield 6 developers read the feedback and decided to respond to the criticism:

Over the past week, we’ve seen discussions, memes, and candid feedback about some of the new looks and cosmetic items, in particular the McNeil skin with the “SECUTY” typo. You pointed out the problem, and we heard you.

A fix for the “Secuty” typo is already in the works, and the team plans to release it in the second phase of Season 5. The Battlefield 6 developers are also “reviewing the approach to communicating about known visual bugs, so players don’t have to guess whether something was intentional or simply went unnoticed.”

The developers also addressed the Midnight Mirage skin, which features five pistols. They said the design is a deliberate creative choice and a nod to action-movie tropes in which operatives have a spare weapon strapped to every free inch of gear “for no apparent reason.”

The Battlefield 6 developers thanked the community for its support. They also acknowledged that “when releasing such a skin alongside other anomalies in cosmetic items,” some players may have wrongly concluded that the Midnight Mirage design was not intended by the developers.
