Pokémon Pokopia: Guide to the “Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises” Event
“Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises” is the first Halloween event in Pokémon Pokopia. It brings a whole collection of decorations you can use to give every region a spooky makeover. To claim them, you’ll first have to play a few tricks on your Pokémon neighbors and collect the treats they hand over.
If you’d like to celebrate Halloween the Pokémon way, this guide walks you through how to complete the Pokémon Pokopia “Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises” event. It also includes complete lists of every reward and every habitat the event offers.
How to start the Pokémon Pokopia “Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises” event
The trick-or-treating event runs from Oct. 17 at 5 a.m. to Nov. 1 at 4:59 a.m., according to your Nintendo Switch’s system clock. If you miss the window, you can still adjust the console’s clock to take part. There are hardly any requirements: anyone who has rebuilt at least one Pokémon Center can join in. To earn the event currency, you’ll also need to learn the Camouflage ability from Zorua, which becomes available as you advance through the Bleak Beach questline.

When you launch the game, the familiar message appears saying that a Pokémon is the talk of the town. That’s your cue to visit the rebuilt Pokémon Center and look for Pumpkaboo. Speak with it, and the pumpkin Pokémon will offer to trade you items for pumpkin candies.
Once the chat is over, Pumpkaboo becomes your friend. It isn’t the only newcomer, though. If you build one of the two new event habitats, you can also draw in Gourgeist.
Inside the Pokémon Center, you can browse and purchase the event items from Pumpkaboo. If you only want a piece or two, keep in mind that the 3D printer can make copies of furnishings you already own.
How to get pumpkin candy in Pokémon Pokopia
Pumpkaboo explains that you earn pumpkin candies by frightening other Pokémon. To pull it off, use the Camouflage ability and turn Ditto into “one of their favorite things.”
Not every disguise works on every Pokémon. Everyday objects, such as a mushroom streetlight, will appeal to Pokémon that enjoy bright habitats, while more niche choices, like a punching bag for Hitmonchan, can also do the trick. Remember that each Pokémon can only be scared once.

Once you’re standing near a Pokémon, watch for a comment about the object you’re disguised as. When they say something, drop the disguise to give them a fright! If you reveal yourself before the Pokémon has noticed the object, nothing happens. After they recover, they’ll hand over a few pumpkin candies. I received anywhere from one to three, though I can’t tell whether the amount is random or depends on something specific.
All Pokémon Pokopia “Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises” event rewards
The event introduces nine new furnishings, and buying one of each costs a total of 20 pumpkin candies. Because each Pokémon seems to give a variable amount, expect to scare somewhere between seven and 20 of them.
If all you want are the pieces required for the new habitats, prioritize the candy bucket, ghost smoke projector, pumpkin lantern, pumpkin lantern tower, and Trevenant streetlight. Collect every item from the event, and you’ll also unlock the “Trick or Treat” photo frame.
