Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride!’ Flops at Opening Box Office

The sci-fi horror feature The Bride!, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, managed a disappointing $13.7 million worldwide during its opening weekend.

Industry reports suggest Warner Bros. could face a deficit of at least $90 million on the project. With a combined production and marketing budget reaching $155 million, the film’s commercial struggle is being attributed to a tepid audience response, a lackluster promotional tour, and an unfavorable release window.

Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! serves as a reimagining of the classic Bride of Frankenstein, following the titular monster and her companion, Frank, through the gritty landscape of 1930s Chicago. Critical reception has been polarized, with the film currently holding a 59% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
