Los Angeles recently played host to the 40th annual ASC Awards, where the American Society of Cinematographers celebrated the year’s finest visual storytelling. Michael Bauman emerged as the night’s big winner, taking home the top prize for his exceptional work on “Battle After Battle.”
This latest victory solidifies a remarkable season for Bauman, who previously secured equivalent trophies at the BAFTA and British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) Awards. He triumphed over a highly competitive field that included Autumn Durald Arkapaw (“Sinners”), Darius Khondji (“Marty Supreme”), Dan Laustsen (“Frankenstein”), and Adolfo Veloso (“Train Dreams”).
The ASC Awards are widely regarded as a key bellwether for the Academy Awards; historically, 18 of the 39 previous winners have gone on to claim an Oscar. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on the night of March 15.
