The upcoming project will be a fresh intellectual property built on the power of Unreal Engine 5.

Iconic Japanese game designer Shinji Mikami, celebrated as the visionary behind the Resident Evil franchise, is forging ahead with a new venture following his 2023 departure from Tango Gameworks. New details have emerged regarding his latest studio, Unbound Games, which is already deep into the development of an original title for consoles and PC.

According to the studio’s official website, the company was established in May 2023, with Mikami serving as Director. While Unbound Games currently employs around 50 staff members, the team plans to scale up to approximately 150 developers as production ramps up.

The studio identifies as a fully independent entity dedicated to crafting high-budget experiences for a global audience. Its primary mission is the development of original AAA projects that push creative boundaries.

Based on recent job listings, the studio’s debut project will be an entirely new IP slated for a multi-platform release on consoles and PC. The game is being developed using the cutting-edge features of Unreal Engine 5.

Looking ahead, the studio also intends to balance its portfolio by working on smaller-scale, more experimental titles alongside its major releases.

The company profile further highlights a prestigious talent pool, noting that its employees have previously contributed to legendary franchises and hits like Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus, and Hi-Fi Rush.

A key figure in the studio’s leadership is producer Masato Kimura—a long-time collaborator of Mikami who previously worked on Ghostwire: Tokyo, Devil May Cry, and numerous titles within the Resident Evil universe.
