PlayStation Reportedly Moving Away From Discs While Xbox Prepares to Revive Physical Releases, Insider Claims
PlayStation’s competitor appears set to keep discs. Blogger eXtas1s points to a new Xbox job listing as evidence.
This summer, Sony angered many players by announcing it was dropping discs for PlayStation games. Some players are still upset. They continue to ask the company to bring discs back in comments under its posts and trailers.
In late August, Microsoft introduced its Disc-to-Digital program, which lets owners of physical game copies get a digital version at no extra charge. Many players then concluded that Xbox, like PlayStation, was abandoning discs entirely. According to eXtas1s, however, people “may have misunderstood [Microsoft’s] actions,” and the company’s leadership intends to “resurrect” physical game releases.
The blogger noticed a job listing for an Xbox Games Supply Strategist that appeared a few days ago. He says it indicates that Xbox is not giving up discs for now.
According to the listing, the specialist “will coordinate the release of physical Xbox game copies across all platforms, lead the development of global inventory distribution strategies, and oversee their execution at all stages of the product lifecycle.”

eXtas1s argues that Xbox leadership would not have posted such a listing if it planned to drop discs in the foreseeable future:
You know who I trust? The budget. If they spent money on this, there was a reason. By announcing it was dropping discs, Sony gave Xbox a generous gift.
