GTA VI Trailer Reportedly Contains Nod to Original GTA, Which Fans See as Hint at Lucia and Jason’s Past
The two main characters are presumed to have known each other for many years.
The developers of Grand Theft Auto VI recently published the game’s launch trailer. Players began studying the footage, and one frame caught the attention of some observant franchise fans.
At the 0:40 mark, the two lead characters, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, sit on a car. A user going by dash spotted text on Jason’s T-shirt that references the original Grand Theft Auto. The developers referenced a “combat training school in North Fort Law,” a district in the state of New Guernsey.
One theory holds that this is more than a nod for veteran fans of the franchise, and that Rockstar Games is hinting at the backstory of Lucia and Jason. It is already known that Lucia comes from Liberty City, which sits next to the state of New Guernsey. The launch trailer also showed the protagonist’s military past. If Jason did undergo military training in North Fort Law, he could have met Lucia during that period of his life.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
