Antonio Banderas Joins Nicolas Cage in 'True Detective' Season 5
Nicolas Cage and Antonio Banderas have officially landed the lead roles in season 5 of True Detective. HBO continues to build a star-studded cast for the new story, which is set in New York City.
Cage will play New York detective Henry Logan, and Banderas will play a character named Rai Garcia.
The story unfolds in the Jamaica Bay area of New York City. Plot details remain under wraps, but the new season will connect to Night Country, the fourth season, which took place in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska.

Issa López returns for season 5. She created Night Country, which starred Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. López will again serve as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer. She says the new story will include references to the previous season and will again feature elements of magical realism:
“The references will mostly be to season four. It’s the same universe, and magical realism is my calling card, so that will be there too.”
Filming on season 5 will begin in 2027. HBO has not yet announced a premiere date.
