Action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed the development of a third installment in the iconic fantasy epic, “Conan the Barbarian.”
“It’s a fantastic narrative where Conan has reigned as king for 40 years before settling into his role, only to find himself gradually ousted from his own kingdom. Naturally, a massive conflict ensues, leading to his eventual return—and that’s when the real chaos, violence, sorcery, and mythical creatures come into play. We now have the cutting-edge visual effects and the financial backing from major studios to make these films truly spectacular. I’m incredibly excited about where these projects are headed,” Schwarzenegger shared during a recent appearance at a sports festival in Ohio.
Christopher McQuarrie, the creative force behind the most recent “Mission: Impossible” films, is set to write and direct the sequel. As of now, a definitive release date remains unannounced.
The franchise originally launched in 1982, with the sequel “Conan the Destroyer” following in 1984. Based on the celebrated stories by Robert E. Howard, the plot follows a Cimmerian warrior on a quest for vengeance against the ruthless Thulsa Doom, the man responsible for his parents’ deaths.
In 2011, a 3D reimagining of “Conan” starring Jason Momoa was released, though it was panned by critics and ultimately underperformed at the box office.
Additionally, Schwarzenegger recently hinted that he has been in discussions regarding a potential return to the “Predator” universe.
