Pop powerhouse Chappell Roan recently reclaimed her agency by filming the very crowds trailing her through the streets of Paris. The singer-songwriter used her own device to capture the jarring reality of being “disregarded as a human” after a chaotic surge of fans and photographers hemmed her in during her stay in France.

In a candid video captured by a bystander that surfaced on Monday (March 9), the “Midwest Princess” artist is seen in selfie mode, documenting the intense scene as onlookers shout her name. “I’m just trying to go to dinner, and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me,” she explains to her camera before panning to show the strangers surrounding her.

The confrontation escalated when Roan singled out an individual who persisted in demanding an autograph, even as she addressed the harassment directly. “This person I’ve asked several times to go away, and they will not,” she noted, observing that the individual attempted to hide their face once the camera was turned toward them. “They’re hiding their face because they’re ashamed.”

Visibly frustrated by the lack of personal space, Roan issued a firm plea for basic respect. “All of you, I’m asking you kindly to please leave me alone and stop following me and harassing me,” she stated, emphasizing that she would not be signing autographs under such duress. “This is what it’s like, if you were wondering how it is.”

The Missouri-born artist has been a fixture at Paris Fashion Week, making high-profile appearances at runway shows for legendary houses including Mugler, Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, and Vivienne Westwood. However, this incident is merely the latest in a series of moments where Roan has stood her ground against “predatory behavior.” Throughout 2024, she became a vocal advocate for artist boundaries, famously calling out aggressive photographers on award show red carpets.

“For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying,” she previously shared with Entertainment Tonight following a viral moment at the 2024 VMAs. “You don’t get to yell at me like that.”

While she continues to navigate the complexities of sudden superstardom, her musical momentum remains undeniable. Following the massive success of her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess—which climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard 200—Roan dominated the charts in 2025 with her latest hits, “The Subway” and “The Giver.”
