World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King board game shows off its bits in a new trailer

Publisher Z-Man Games is taking Pandemic, the popular board game about stopping disease, in a new direction. The company is repurposing the cooperative system, turning it into a video game tie-in. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Game is due out in November, and it now has a proper trailer which we’ve embedded above.

The game was announced earlier this month with a teaser trailer. The final look of the game leaked out Tuesday afternoon when the Wario64 Twitter account spotted it up for sale on Amazon. The game is currently listed there as “temporarily out of stock.” Meanwhile, pre-orders are available via the Blizzard Gear Store and on Z-Man’s own website. Retail price is $59.99.

The complete Wrath of the Lich King version of Pandemic set up for play.

Hero character pieces, including two sideboard cards with special powers for Sylvanas and Thrall.

Enemy bits, including the Icecrown Citadel.

We still don’t know everything about how the game will function. The news release that accompanied the trailer mentions quests:

As you fight your way to the Lich King, all manner of dark magic and terrible creatures under his control will need to be neutralized. This comes in the form of quests, a brand-new mechanic that can be completed as a team through a combination of dice rolls and using the hero cards at your disposal. However, each quest comes with its own dangers and hindrances. Complete these quests to move closer to the final assault on Icecrown Citadel, where the Lich King himself resides.

The big draw here — as with many modern crowdfunded board games — appears to be the bits. Wrath of the Lich King will include some nifty 3D features, like a papercraft Icecrown Citadel. There’s also a handful of exquisite hero-sized plastic miniatures like the Warchief of the Horde, Thrall, Varian Wrynn, and Sylvanas Windrunner.
