Traditionally, November is heist month in GTA Online, fitting seamlessly into the calendar. It sits perfectly between Halloween and the winter update with Christmas and New Year festivities. The past November marked the period of the most significant challenge for the community in the game’s history. From November 7 to December 5, players were tasked with amassing 20 trillion GTA$ through the finales of eight major heists (five classic ones, Doomsday, the casino, and Cayo Perico). We completed the task, but only just a week ago. Rockstar Games decided to extend the event as the challenge simply had not been met.
Everyone who participated in at least one finale by the 10th received new items — the Pacific Standard bomber jacket and N.O.O.S.E. outfit, and also the promised vehicle — Police Predator boat. Although initially, the developers mentioned a “new vehicle,” and it was perceived as a completely new addition, not something that’s been in the game since day one.
However, to be honest, it didn’t seem like the challenge’s objective was achieved. It seemed like a 33-day period should have been quite manageable for a multimillion community. Yet, if you look at the step-by-step progress, questions arise.
- After the first week (7 days) — 5.4 trillion. A quarter over ¼ of the given time — a good pace. The panther statue greatly assisted, which was guaranteed to leaders raiding Cayo Perico not for the first time.
- After the second week (14 days) — 9.1 trillion (it was 8.7 trillion the evening before). During the rather lengthy Doomsday, players could earn double money (and reputation points) only at the end of the third act. Double GTA$ for the finales of the first two acts would have been helpful.
- After the third week (21 days) — 12 trillion. Only 60% with seven days to go, and a 2x multiplier was proposed for the classic heists — the most challenging to organize (getting a coordinated team of four together is quite a task for the community).
- After the fourth week (28 days) — 16 trillion. Earn the needed 8 on diamonds, which were the target of all casino heists if it wasn’t the first run. If they had added 2x GTA$ on top, that would have been another story…
The goal wasn’t reached in time, and the developers extended the event until the update’s release. Five days were given to rack up 4 trillion without any bonuses or special loot. And you know what? They couldn’t think of anything better than to announce the operation’s success. It’s clear that since all announced prizes were added to ‘Online,’ they’ll eventually reach players. But maybe they didn’t need to serve everything on a silver platter? They could have done without the free boat: “16 trillion out of 20 is a great result! Here’s the bomber jacket and outfit. If you really want the Predator, it’s for sale.” Not that spending an extra 3 million 780 thousand feels justifiable, but that would certainly have been a fairer decision. Otherwise, what’s the point of time-limited challenges?
