The Coalition, the studio behind Gears of War, has cracked a post on his official blog to announce that its teams were gradually switching to Unreal Engine 5. “Gears of War has always been the showcase for the Unreal Engine, from 720p on Xbox 360 to 120fps multiplayer on Xbox Series X | S, can we read. We are excited to continue this tradition by developing many Unreal Engine 5 projects in the years to come.“
Naturally, The Coalition has no plans to put Gears 5 aside: fresh content will be rolled out through upcoming Operations 7 and 8 which will feature new characters, new maps, and special events. Either way, the studio is aware that getting to grips with Epic Games’ engine won’t be a snap. “Switching to a new engine is always a big task, so we want to make it clear that we won’t be announcing any projects for a while.“, explains The Coalition.
Moreover, following the rumors suggesting that the studio was working on a Star Wars game, the community manager wanted to clarify things on Reddit : “No, we are not working on such a project. We have nothing to announce at the moment.“Period.
