Sea of Thieves has switched to a seasonal model, updating the game every three months with a rewards track. During Sunday’s E3 presentation, Microsoft and Rare showed off what’s coming up for the pirate sandbox, and that includes a preview of season three. There’s an unexpected crossover with the Pirates of the Caribbean series in a new original story called A Pirate’s Life.
Jack Sparrow and his crewmates are there, as well as Davy Jones. We also saw some new enemies, including giant crab men. It looks like players will get to spend more time in the Sea of the Damned, which is currently limited to just a respawn mechanic. However, it looks like there’s a whole world out there in the spirit realm that players will get to explore during the course of A Pirate’s Life.
While Sea of Thieves was a little dry at launch, the multiplayer seafaring game has been able to round out its gameplay with constant updates. Rare has had the tricky task of adding new content without invalidating the older stuff, and while the game isn’t perfect, it’s made huge strides since its debut.
