A few weeks ago, Sony confirmed the existence of the PlayStation VR 2. “Finally” will say some, and they should be happy since the manufacturer has just moved up a gear: the controllers have just been unveiled in photos from the PlayStation Blog, the latter even providing some technical details.
Thus, we will finally abandon the PlayStation Move (released on the market in 2010 all the same) for a brand new accessory, like what is done with the competition: a handle for each hand, wireless, with a spherical design. and refined ergonomics, designed for comfort. More interestingly, Sony highlights several major technical details:
- The controllers will carry the famous haptic feedback, these ultra-precise and localized vibrations at several degrees of power that have already caused a sensation on the DualSense
- The adaptive triggers of the PS5 controller, featuring notches of hardness for a resistance effect, will also make a comeback.
- High-sensitivity digital detection will be implemented, allowing precise movements of the fingers immediately recognized by the pad
- A tracking system is also announced : the headset controller will be directly followed by the PS VR 2 headset thanks to a “ring” system, placed at the base of this first
- The buttons will be better integrated : the left joystick will include an analog stick, the Triangle and Square buttons, a “grip” key, the L2 trigger and the Create key; the controller will contain the other analog stick, the Cross and Circle keys, an R1 “grip” key, the R2 trigger and the Options key. Sony specifies that the “grip” keys can, for example, be used to pick up objects in games.
While waiting to see what the helmet itself will look like, the Japanese giant specifies that prototypes will soon be tested in the community, without giving more details. Regardless, Sony seems to want to catch up with technology within the industry: although it is the best-selling headset with more than five million sales, the first PS VR, of 2016, accuses today a slightly aging formula despite the constant games offered. A makeover is necessary, Sony knows it well and is preparing it very seriously behind the scenes: we should see all of this very soon.
