So, this one would offer 4K with a definition of 4000x2040p (2000×2040 per eye) for 8.16 million pixels, more than the Oculus Quest 2, to name but one. Sony would also say goodbye to most wires by requiring only a USB C cable to plug into the PlayStation 5.
Even more interesting, no more cameras would have to be purchased to operate the helmet : the PS VR 2 would actually integrate its own cameras to directly “track” the movements of the player and, precisely, those of his hands and controllers. This would make it possible not to be limited to a precise geometric field and to benefit from a much greater freedom of movement.
We also learn that this crisp PlayStation VR would include haptic feedback right into the headset, so as to vibrate in a precise and localized way the helmet itself according to what is happening in the action. Remember that this very convincing technology (when properly used) is already used in the DualSense, the PS5 controller, and will be integrated into the controllers of the PS VR 2.
Finally, UploadVR confirms the arrival of a feudal rendering : this one is quite recent in the field of virtual reality and makes it possible to capture the gaze of the player to optimize the visual rendering and improve it.
Obviously, we are only too well advised to take all of this with a grain of salt, “just in case”. We imagine that Sony should make some official statements this year or next year. Finally, we hope so, because we are still quite curious.
