PlayStation Plus Essential: Alan Wake 2, Cocoon, and Goat Simulator 3 Arrive October 7, 2025
During Wednesday’s State of Play, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for October 2025. Alan Wake 2, Cocoon, and Goat Simulator 3 will be made available to all Essential subscribers on October 7, 2025.
The horror sequel Alan Wake 2—a Game of the Year nominee in 2023—continues the saga first introduced in 2010’s Alan Wake. It expands the narrative with a new playable lead, FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson, and ties into Remedy Entertainment’s shared-universe storytelling that its downloadable expansions further explore.
Annapurna’s 2023 puzzler Cocoon remains a standout in the genre thanks to its nested-world design, where each puzzle folds into another like Matryoshka dolls. Critics praised it as a carefully realized, self-contained experience, and it’s also drawn attention as a strong addition to Game Pass.
Goat Simulator 3 delivers absurd, chaotic multiplayer fun—an intentionally silly party game that puts you in the hooves of a mischievous goat bent on mayhem.
PlayStation Plus is offered in three tiers. Essential is the base level: it provides online multiplayer, a monthly selection of free PS4 and PS5 titles, cloud save storage, and member discounts on the PlayStation Store. Pricing for PlayStation Plus Essential is $79.99 per year, $24.99 for three months, or $9.99 per month.
Sony also announced that The Last of Us Part II Remastered will join the Extra and Premium game catalogues on September 26, 2025—coinciding with Naughty Dog and Sony’s celebration of The Last of Us Day. Additionally, the Premium classics collection will receive Tekken 3, SoulCalibur III, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary later this year.
