While Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal generally maintain a discreet profile regarding their romance, the singer-songwriter broke her silence on Friday, January 16. Moved by the cinematic power of the film Hamnet, Abrams took to social media to praise the production and her boyfriend’s compelling portrayal of William Shakespeare.

She initiated her series of posts with a candid snapshot of Mescal kneeling during a scenic hike, teasing the forthcoming tribute to her followers with a simple, anticipatory caption: “Okay so.”

The Grammy-nominated artist then posted an image of Mescal sharing an embrace with Hamnet director Chloé Zhao. In an emotional caption, Abrams admitted she struggled to find the right words to convey the film’s profound impact, noting that the story had resonated deeply within her since she first saw it. Reflecting on the photos while at home, she described Zhao’s vision as “singular.”

“Jessie [Buckley] is singular. Paul is singular,” Abrams continued, extending her admiration to the cast and crew. She punctuated the praise with another photo of Mescal—dressed in a Shakespeare-themed t-shirt—and added a playful, heartfelt declaration: “Also I love him surprise.”

Before concluding her posts, Abrams encouraged her audience to experience Hamnet on the big screen while it remains in theatrical release.

These public endorsements follow a major milestone for the historical drama, which recently secured the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the 2026 Golden Globes. Following the ceremony, Abrams and Mescal were spotted celebrating together at an exclusive afterparty.

Adding to her busy schedule, Abrams recently announced her transition into acting. She is slated to make her cinematic debut in the A24 film Please, directed by Halina Reijn (known for Bodies Bodies Bodies and Babygirl). While her involvement is confirmed, specific details regarding the plot and her character remain under wraps.

Speculation regarding a romance between the pop star and the Normal People actor first gained momentum in the summer of 2024, following several sightings in London. Mescal has since become a frequent fixture at Abrams’ concerts, and the pair made their official public debut together at the Gladiator II premiere in November 2024.

Though Abrams has occasionally featured Mescal on her Instagram—including a cozy snapshot from the 2025 Glastonbury Festival—Mescal remains fiercely protective of their privacy. In a past interview with Rolling Stone, he addressed the curiosity surrounding their relationship, stating that their connection is “deeply precious” to him and something he fundamentally intends to safeguard.
