The organizers of the Berlin International Film Festival have unveiled the opening film for its 76th edition: the Afghan drama No Good Men.
Directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat, the film centers on Naru (portrayed by Sadat herself), the only woman working as a television cinematographer in Kabul. Firmly convinced that “decent men” no longer exist in her country, Naru finds her cynicism challenged when she strikes up a relationship with Qodrat (Anwar Hashimi), a reporter who joins her on a professional assignment.
The screenplay is adapted from Sadat’s own autobiographical novel of the same name. The 2026 Berlinale is scheduled to run from February 12 to 22, with acclaimed director Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, Perfect Days) serving as the Jury President. Other highlights in the non-competitive program include the musical The Testament of Anna Lee and Gore Verbinski’s sci-fi comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.
