Pillars of Eternity 2 demo exhibits off large enemies and nautical misadventures

Obsidian was readily available at E3 to indicate off the primary gameplay footage of Pillars of Eternity 2, full with crusing, dungeon-crawling and getting squashed by a colossal stone bloke. Just a mean day adventuring across the Deadfire Peninsula.

For extra fantasy adventures, take a gander at the best RPGs on PC.

Since your large ol’ fort will get destroyed proper at the beginning of Pillars of Eternity 2, you want a brand new house. And you understand what’s higher than castles? Floating castles. As a ship captain, you’ll be crusing throughout the area, moving into all types of trouble on the excessive seas. Obsidian needs to encourage exploration extra, and whereas the primary sport was expansive, they need this one to be even higher in relation to tempting you off the overwhelmed monitor.

At sea, you’ll even have dilemmas, extra Choose Your Own Adventure type crises that crop up and require you, because the captain, to make tough selections. In the demo, a plague ship is encountered. Different programs of motion can be found, however it’s higher to be secure than sorry, so the ship is fired upon and sinks to the depths.

I loved Pillars’ fight, although it proved to be often divisive. Obsidian has made some enhancements this time round. “We’ve put a lot of effort into trying to slow the pace down a little bit. Make combat a lot clearer, the feedback is a lot clearer, the visual effects are not quite so overpowering.”

The results may not be as overpowering, however they’re prettier. The sport appears to be typically simpler on the eyes. “It’s a huge step up from the first game,” Obsidian says. “We’ve improved pretty much every aspect of the game, including all the lighting and background rendering, to better integrate the 2D and 3D look of the characters on the backgrounds.”

Battles promise to be a bit extra epic, too. While the primary sport had its justifiable share of monsters and the occasional dragon, the battles have been normally small-to-medium in scale. In the demo, the celebration encounters an enormous stone guardian, towering above them. There will probably be extra of those giant enemies, Obsidian say. And they’ve received talents that mirror their dimension. The large grabs one of many heroes, holding him in his gargantuan hand earlier than squashing him. Rude!

Though solely a quick take a look at a single side-quest dungeon, Pillars of Eternity 2 is already wanting promising.
