OLED switch: this is Nintendo’s new console, but without 4K or new performance

It is therefore on Tuesday July 6, 2021, when the news around video games is very calm, that Nintendo decided to formalize the arrival of its brand new console: the Switch OLED. So this is the official name of this new machine which has fueled the rumors and especially the wildest fantasies of many insiders who must certainly lower their eyes at the present time. And no, Nintendo has unfortunately not planned a “Switch Pro” as some already imagined, since this new iteration does not include any real hardware improvement. On the other hand, what is very real is the arrival of a new OLED screen, which some manufacturers had leaked in recent weeks. A more beautiful screen, therefore, able to display better colors, but also larger, since we go from the classic 6.2 inches to 7 inches now. We will therefore gain in image quality, but also in visual comfort, which is not negligible when playing on the go. On the other hand, no miracle concerning the resolution, we stay on 720p. In 2021, it still stings as much.

Among the new features, Nintendo is also announcing an upgrade to internal memory. We go from the somewhat scandalous 32 GB to 64 GB of storage space, which is certainly double, but which will remain insufficient to avoid the purchase of a Micro SD card. In the era of basic 1TB at PlayStation and Xbox, Nintendo is still playing the technical backward card, but we are now used to it. On the other hand, hallelujah, the Japanese manufacturer has provided an Ethernet port available directly on the dock of the OLED Switch. In 2021, this is obviously the minimum union, but remember that when the first Switch was released in 2017, this was not the case and you had to buy an adapter to enjoy a real connection, without having to go through simple Wi-Fi. There is also an improvement in the speakers of the OLED Switch, with sound that should cover the machine a little more. Finally, the last new element: the console support bracket is now adjustable, which will offer a better viewing angle.
