No Man’s Sky’s season-like Expeditions game mode gets a new adventure this month with Emergence, a Halloween-themed journey in which players must rid sand-covered planets of their Titan Worm infestations.
“As travelers cleanse planets of cursed dust and hunt the titanic sandworms, they will unravel the threads of a dark narrative,” Hello Games said in a statement announcing the new season. That means this expedition is the first one to carry a story.
Emergence comes with an overall title update to No Man’s Sky, which brings its own set of improvements and content enhancements. Players will see more varied Sandworms, and they can now tame and ride them — a timely update considering this week’s theater premiere of Dune.
Other gory, gross, or Halloween-themed features include the “Feasting Casque” echo appearance (it’s a “many-toothed, grotesque alien”) and the Ghastly Trail customization, which “applies a unique organic effect to the Jetpack’s exhaust nozzles, eject gooey fluids and tiny worms during flight.”
Mmm. Tasty.
The latest update will also apply richer particle effects to things like streaking meteors, muzzle flashes, explosions, and laser impacts.
