New versions of RDR 1 are already on physical media
During announcement of a new port of Red Dead Redemption reported that the game will be released on discs and cartridges a little later, on October 13. Today, without delay, physical media went on sale. But yesterday the players demonstrated unboxings. Neither box contained a poster nor a user manual. And the only difference between the editions was the presence (PS4) and absence (Switch) of a shiny surface on the cover.
This is the second Rockstar Games release to feature no printed supplements. Two years ago they were not there and release of the “definitive edition” of the “Trilogy” on discs. Are the developers really abandoning the traditional maps, posters and books that they have been investing in for more than 20 years? Apparently, this is how they save on production. We can only hope that this trend will continue only for the re-release of old titles, and for new ones there will be all of the above, collectibles, and merch. Although here’s Remedy, the authors of Max Payne working on remake of the first two parts, longtime R* collaborators, will not release their new game, Alan Wake 2, on physical media. And this is not the first such case in the industry. Large retailers like Best Buy are also starting to reject the discs. What awaits? GTA 6 in this plan?..
In honor of start of sales and Friday the 13th, coinciding with this case, “rock stars” expanded their library on giphy.com animations based on Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.
