What do you think about us going through interviews (not necessarily the most recent ones) with people who worked with Rockstar on its games, picking out the most interesting and important moments from there? In Midsummer, Ned Luke, who played Michael in GTA 5spoke about many nuances of working on the “A” and about his personal life (about his passion for sports, parents and past), but we will still concentrate on the first.
- The actor may have had a small role in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it was removed so that players would not have associations with Michael. He himself is not against the developers’ decision.
- Roger Clark, who played the leading role in the same RDR 2, also attended the GTA 5 auditions (they were more like theatrical ones than cinematic ones), but did not pass them.
- After the casting, the candidates for the roles of Michael and Trevor acted out a scene over an open grave in North Yankton from the mission “Bury the Hatchet.”
- Another actor, who was going to play De Santa, panicked when they gave him other material that he had not prepared. At this moment, our hero realized that he had beaten his competitor in a sporting manner.
- One day a director (from somewhere in England) was telling a story with a very strong accent. Afterwards everyone laughed, and a puzzled Luke said: “I don’t understand a damn thing.” The director simply turned around and left. Then the actor thought that he would be kicked out of the project.
- The face for the character model was one of the last to be created. It was not possible to do this right away, because it turned out either too young, or too old, even “similar to Ronald Reagan.”
- Ned really enjoyed working with Slink Johnson (Lamar), Robert Bogue (Steve Haynes) and the whole team as a whole. He says it was fun.
- The phrase hermaphrodudes (a play on the word “hermaphrodites”) uttered by Jimmy while playing Righteous Slaughter 7 was not written into the script – it was improvised by Danny Tamberelli.
- But Luke didn’t like the famous “Every day you forget a thousand little things, let this be one of them.” He tried in every possible way to alter the remark, but R* employees insisted that it should be pronounced exactly as it was written.
- First trailer the team watched together in the studio. Michael’s monologue, beginning with the words “Why did I move here?” I guess it was the weather” was recorded exclusively for the debut show – it is nowhere to be found in the game. Then, in November 2011, the actor was recognized, and he even deleted his social media accounts. A its rating on IMDb flew up to almost the maximum 100 points.
- Once, when asked what his father did, Ned’s son said that he “stealed cars and robbed banks.” He plays baseball himself and is often teased with the name Jimmy.
- Once, while in the ghetto at a motorcycle show with Sean Fontenot (Franklin), Luke noticed a policeman on a bike who was photographing him surrounded by local guys. He jokes that the patrolman thought the actor had been kidnapped.
- In real life, “Michael” is a very active gamer, he plays a lot of new games, but he prefers to play on consoles (he has a PS5 and some kind of Xbox), although he also has a computer. Doesn’t like the PC version GTA Online because of the abundance of cheaters, and sometimes griefers also get to him. Once I had a shootout on the beach, during which I lost about 83:6, staying up until half past three in the morning.
By the way, this month Ned Luke decided to post his GTA 5 let’s play in honor of the recent anniversary. The actor wittily comments on what is happening on the screen, tells interesting stories and the like. So if you want to watch Michael manage Michael, here are the links: First part, second, third. To be continued…
