It feels like Fortnite Season 7 only started a few weeks ago, and yet the teases for Season 8 already seem to be coming thick and fast. Patch 7.2.0 arrived earlier today – bringing back glider redeploy – and players have been discovering plenty of easter eggs that may point towards the upcoming event at the end of the season.
The most obvious introduction is some sort of icy sphere hovering in the sky directly over Polar Peak. As noted on Reddit, approaching clouds the entire screen in with a snowy filter, to the point where the player is almost entirely obscured. Walking away clears the screen again, but it could be that this orb relates to the ice storm that’s rumoured to be approaching the island.
But while winter might be coming to Polar Peak, it’s a very different story elsewhere on the map. Over on the island south of Happy Hamlet, there’s an enormous ice boulder that seems to be melting. The rock currently has a health bar that’s rapidly ticking down, although it’ll likely take a while before we find out if anything is hidden inside. In a clip posted to Reddit, the boulder has an HP of nearly five billion (although that total’s dropping by several thousand points every second).
Finally, Fortnite’s TVs are acting up again. The televisions previously broadcast warnings ahead of the meteor strike and rocket launch in Seasons 3 and 4 respectively, and now they’ve come to life once more. This time, a blue screen displays the phrase “no signal,” but the silhouette of the Ice King can clearly be seen behind the message.

What all of this means is anybody’s guess, but clearly Epic is ramping things up for yet another game-changing end of season event. As for when that will arrive, we can have a slightly more educated guess: Epic has previously stated that Season 7 will end on February 28, which means we should know more in about six weeks’ time, although I’m sure there’ll be plenty more clues before then.
