Little Witch in the Woods is a darling pixel adventure game where you play as Ellie, a witch apprentice trying to restore life to an abandoned village. The early access game focuses on collecting resources, brewing potions, and solving puzzles. Our Little Witch in the Woods beginner’s guide provides information to help make your experience smoother.
Keep in mind that the game is still in early access, so some of the information below may change before the game’s official release. As of this writing, all of this information is accurate.
Curfew is at midnight
Ellie needs to be in bed by midnight or else she won’t regain all her stamina in the morning. The amount you lose is small, but it’s not worth staying out that late just to start the day worse off.
Grab resources in groups of two
Nearly every potion or candy ingredient requires two of the raw material to make. That being said, save your inventory by grabbing everything two at a time so you can instantly process them into the ingredient and not hold on to any extras.
Keep some potions on you
As you explore the forest, you’ll notice things like wilted plants or pumpkin vines. While you do have to clear away a lot of these to progress in the story, some just prevent you from grabbing useful items like chalk. To avoid having to run back and forth, you should keep a small amount of Weed Terminating Potions and Nutrition Potions on you.
Tiptoe around cautious creatures
Using the Shift button, you can walk slowly, allowing you to sneak up on bugs and other critters who might try to run away once they notice you. The game tells you this, but if you are a rapid tutorial skipper, you might have missed this important and necessary skill.
You don’t need to buy chalk
Though Diane, the lovely witch merchant, sells White Witch Chalk, you don’t need to buy it. Based on our playthrough, there’s enough chalk stashed on platforms you need potions to reach (see the above tip). White Witch Chalk costs a whopping 25 Luna Coins and is not worth purchasing.
