Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, the latest entry in Sega’s white-knuckle banana-grabbing platform game series, will include a variety of cameos, including Beat from the Jet Set Radio franchise.
Sega said Wednesday that Beat is just one of “several iconic guest characters” coming to Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and teased more reveals in the weeks to come. Beat is the cover star of the original Jet Set Radio and its sequel, Jet Set Radio Future, the stylish inline skating/graffiti games released for Sega Dreamcast and the original Xbox.
Jet Set Radio’s Beat will be a free, unlockable character, obtained through normal gameplay on all platforms, Sega said in a news release. In a nice little touch, when playing as Beat, the in-game bananas will change to yellow cans of spray paint.
Beat joins a familiar list of simians returning in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania: AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, GonGon, YanYan, and Doctor.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a modern, high-definition remake of the original three Super Monkey Ball games. It’s coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on Oct. 5. The console versions will costs $39.99, while the PC version costs $29.99.
