Interview with Jamie King, co-founder of R *

When we talk about key figures leaving Rockstar Games, we mention Benzies, Hauser Jr. and Lazlo… But for rock stars, big resignations have always been common. About 15 years ago, one of the five founders, Jamie King, left the studio. A fresh interview sheds some light on some moments in the history of R *.

In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded by the Hauser brothers, Terry Donovan, Gary Foreman, and Jamie King. The latter participated in the creation of many games, from Gta 2 and before GTA: Liberty City Stories

There were several topics for discussion at once. For a long time, questions such as why Claude is silent (because the creators wanted the players to associate themselves with the protagonist as much as possible) or where the game studio got such a name from (Sam Hauser was a fan of rock music, and in the early years, together with his brother, dreamed of becoming rock stars, so they did). But a lot of interesting things were also sounded. Those who have little understanding of the host’s accent can turn on English subtitles.

  • Jamie appreciates the cultural code put into GTA: Vice City (its development took a year), but he calls it special GTA: San Andreas
  • In the early 2000s, Take-Two did not interfere with the creation of games. “You will not tell us how and what to do. <...> While we are making hits. ” Now the state of affairs has probably changed, the former head of development is sure, in particular due to the fact that GTA Online became just huge and that “they print money.”
  • Hot coffee were not cut from GTA: SA, because they did not have time to do it. It was difficult to delete the mode, so it was simply turned off.
  • The monetization of the success of GTA and RDR is done perfectly well, “Online” continues to be profitable, so no one is in a hurry to announce Gta 6
  • King calls his time at Rockstar great, but he certainly wouldn’t return.
  • Jamie has no connection with the Houser.
  • The lawsuits between Benzies and R * do not surprise the interviewee.
  • Dan Hauser leaving? Yes, I would have so much money, I could relax. ” King calls the youngest of the brothers a very talented writer (he is the main writer of GTA) and would like to read a book by him.

To the main question about his departure, Jamie King answers evasively, calling the reason “personal”. He says that he considered life too short to be wasted in the studio. As we know, R * rework was really exhausting, and people just burned out. But the producer is glad that he was a part of this story.

In the near future we will take a closer look at the content. channel… One of these days, an hour-long unedited version of the conversation should be released, and in the future, the author wants to cover the topics of Hollywood actors in the GTA and how believable Jacked book
