Rockstar Games released the definitive reissue today, November 11, 2021 collection of the GTA trilogywhich includes the classic games GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas… The cost of the “novelty” in the R * store was almost $ 60. GTA: Trilogy has arrived on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and Nintendo Switch. The collection will be released on mobile operating systems in 2022.
Few of the readers know that original GTA: Trilogy appeared in 2005, and she was a hasty response to the flared up scandal with modification “Hot Coffee”, which returned to the game GTA: San Andreas sexual content (mini-games with CJ girls), blocked on release. In part, this release helped a little to bring down the flames of the fire, which fanned all and sundry, including the wife of the former President of the United States. Hillary Clinton (Rockstar drove over it in GTA 4, depicting her face on the statue of happiness).
And now, 16 years later, the developers decided to play on the feelings of nostalgia and make all the money in the worldrelease the definitive reissue of the GTA trilogy compilation. Recall that the creation of the trilogy was carried out by contractors from Grove Street Studios. They spent more than two years on the development of the collection., but after looking at the many screenshots and videos before the official release, it’s safe to say – this is hack!
As one of the most loyal fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, it’s hard for me to watch and take on the new look of “classic GTA”. Rockstar Games was renowned for releasing quality new games. Each episode of Grand Theft Auto brought something new and different to the game’s universe. However, looking at the new GTA: Trilogy, you ask yourself one question – why did they not fix old bugs and errors that have long been fixed by at least a special patch from the community called Silent Patch ?! How to chase the creators of modifications, so they are the first, but how to get ready-made fixes – no, it’s difficult and Rockstar does not have enough specialists!
Since the first reissue announcement and the first trailer for GTA: Trilogy, I’ve been repeatedly asked to ignore this release, consigning the Grove Street Studios product to oblivion. But if we remain silent and say nothing, the fat Take-Two Interactive will continue to push low-quality crafts onto computers and consoles of GTA fans. For 18 years we’ve been covering news related to our beloved Grand Theft Auto, and there’s no reason not to share the downsides of Rockstar Games.
GTA: Trilogy is the “champion” of discounts
First, we would like to sincerely thank those players who did not pre-order. Nobody deserves your money until the game is released! There are no “credits of trust and support for developers” – this is one of the many advertising gimmicks that are actively exploited by various companies and organizations.
Second, Rockstar Games is cheating with discounts in its store – the promised bonus is lower than originally declared in the conditions when purchasing the collection!
Thirdly, the collection is not worth its $ 60. Some players cited as an argument that the games cost $ 20 separately, but this is an untenable statement, because R * sells one collection for a single price, and “smearing” the amount of games is bad manners. Let me remind you that the games in the collection are 20 years old and selling them for the full price of modern games is a desire to get money out of thin air!
Fourth, the fair price for GTA: Trilogy will only be on sale and with decent discounts ranging from 30% to 70%. You have to pay for quality, but this does not apply to the reissue of the GTA compilation.
Improvements in the GTA trilogy

- updated minimaps with improved navigation, allowing players to create their own routes,

- new achievements for members of the Rockstar Games Social Club.
Graphics
- higher resolution textures for characters, weapons, vehicles, roads and many other elements of the surrounding world,
- completely redesigned lighting system with increased contrast, reflections and more,
- more realistic weather conditions and water,
- more realistic trees and vegetation,
- increased drawing range, with a deeper and clearer image.
Special improvements across platforms:
- support for 4K resolution at 60 fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S,
- support for NVIDIA DLSS on PC,
- camera zoom, panoramic view and menu selection via touchscreen, and gyroscope aiming on Nintendo Switch.
GTA – old songs about the main thing
Grove Street Studios aka War Drum Studios – do not change the name, but it will remain a trash. GTA: Trilogy has absorbed all the worst that was in the ports on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and, of course, mobile versions of GTA.
Let’s start with the main thing – the game engine in the new Unreal Engine, and not the good old RenderWare. All the juices were squeezed out of the original long ago and sent to a well-deserved retirement. Plus, moving to a new engine from Epic Games will give the GTA modding community a new impetus when creating mods – the trilogy needs to be improved and changed!
The graphics in the three GTAs have undergone significant changes. And if the cities of Liberty City, Vice City, Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas look good, then the characters are disgusting “carbon fiber” in need of full cooling! While playing the trilogy, you are constantly stumbling over the feeling that Rockstar and the guys from Grove have made some kind of killer mixture of GTA, Fortnite, Sims and Army Men! The plastic world has won – these horrible plastic-plasticine characters are out of the spirit of Grand Theft Auto. But there is a silver lining, right? The modern generation, which has never seen the originals of classic GTA, is in high spirits, and, perhaps, will accept a fake with a bang !!! Investors Take-Two Interactive applaud the genius Strauss Zelnik and Karl Slatof – money flowed to them like a river! Why bother when you can make a game according to the well-known formula “tyap, blooper and in production”.
Rockstar has stated that it will retain the spirit of the classics, but how can you explain that the menu sounds of GTA III and GTA: Vice City have been changed to those used by GTA: San Andreas? Have you seen the updated city maps? For example, the GTA III map has lost its yellow style, and now it looks like two blobs like the one used in GTA: Vice City.
I already wrote about censorship, but let’s add some more peppercorns – is it a joke, in some dialogues (!) they began to “peep” mate. Lived, citizens of GTA’s!
Buy or not buy GTA: Trilogy?
I rate the collection on a strong three. It is clear that there is nothing to expect something amazing from the contractors of Rockstar Games in the person of Grove Street Studios, but it is unprofessionalism and thirst for easy money. The cost announced by the developers does not correspond to the quality of the final product.
The best solution today is to wait for the release of the game on Steam and discounts on other sites. Do not support the bunglers with finances! And if on a wave of nostalgia and pulls in GTA, then install the original GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas and enjoy the indescribable atmosphere of your favorite cities.
