Gran Turismo 7: Kazunori Yamauchi is already thinking about the future, realism at the heart of his concerns

While Gran Turismo 7 isn’t even out on PS5 yet, Kazunori Yamauchi shared his future plans in an interview with KPMG (and relayed by our colleagues from Wccftech). According to him, creating a solid connection between the real and the virtual will be one of the major technological challenges in the years to come.

I intend to continue Gran Turismo and make it fit into the culture and the automotive industry., he explains. And at the same time, I want to do something different. I think that one of the missions of video games is to offer digital twins by connecting the real and the digital. On the other hand, I also think that ‘this realism perceived by humans might not necessarily be related to the real world.’ This is a question I intend to grapple with.

Before clarifying his words: “In fact, I’d like to take on the challenge of creating a world where people feel reality more than through things that exist, whether with or without Gran Turismo. […] I firmly believe that only technology can change society and make people happy. I hope this will be the case in our future.

Yamauchi remembers his youth when he spent a lot of time in the forest collecting insects or playing near the river. Creating a digital nature with all its complexity is clearly one of the fantasies he would like to be able to fulfill. If he is known for his love for the automobile, Kazunori Yamauchi could very well decide – why not – to surprise us by venturing into other genres.

In the meantime, we remind you that the release of Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 is now scheduled for 2022.
