Eagles Dethrone Michael Jackson’s Thriller for Best-Selling Album of All Time

Eagles’ album Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) has retaken the spot of best-selling album of all time within the United States, passing Michael Jackson’s Thriller. According to the Recorded Industry Association of America, the 1976 compilation has been licensed 38x platinum (by way of Billboard). Thriller has been bumped to second at 33x platinum, whereas one other Eagles album—1977’s Hotel California—is the third-best-selling album at 29x platinum.

Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) was the best-selling album within the U.S. within the 20th century. Upon Michael Jackson’s dying in 2009, gross sales of Thriller overtook Eagles’ document and positioned it within the primary spot.
