Cyberpunk 2077: Co-Founder Apologizes Face-Camera, But Has Bad News For Next Gen Patch

Rarely has the launch of a video game been as stormy and chaotic as that of Cyberpunk 2077. If the affair has taken on enormous proportions in recent weeks with intervention of the consumer protection agency in Poland, nobody could have expected such a tragedy, especially coming from a game developed by CD Projekt Red, the studio which claimed to be exemplary. But as everyone knows, sometimes it is the White Knights who have the dirtiest apron and it is imperative for its leaders to regain the confidence of the players. This is why Marcin Iwinski, co-founder of CD Projekt Red, has decided to intervene in person to apologize in front of the camera and take stock of the current situation. The title of the video, “Our Commitment” could not be more explicit, and from the first seconds, the tone is set. The look is serious, the face crestfallen, Marcin Iwinski explains taking full responsibility for this fiasco and asks not to blame the development teams.

He admits, however, that the game’s ambitions were too big for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, and the developers haven’t been able to get around the issues with real-time data streaming. If Marcin Iwinski recognizes however that the finalization of the patch day one took longer than expected, which explains the reason for the late sending of the game to the press, he explains that “testing by the development team did not show the issues players encountered while playing the game”. To justify himself, Marcin Iwinski rejects the fault on the technique, in particular on the streaming which must feed the engine of the game, which visibly struggles to manage the bandwidth, especially the old gen consoles. Yeah …

Suddenly, faced with the scale of the task and the resources necessary to correct the game, the schedule is necessarily upset. It is therefore with a certain embarrassment that Marcin Iwinski announces to us that the next gen patch (PS5 and Xbox Series X) will not arrive before the second semester, ie between the months of July and December of this year; if all goes well … CD Projekt Red therefore undertakes to keep this roadmap that has been put in place, and that information will be distilled over the year to keep abreast of the progress of the work. Among the shocking phrases launched by Marcin Iwinski, eliminating the crunch within society is one of the studio’s priorities. Here too, there is something to be surprised about.
