Another blog from our upcoming Greece map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is here! Today, we would like to give you a sneak peek at the famous Corinth Canal which we just could not leave out when creating this DLC, so let’s take a look.
First, let’s go on a brief journey into the history of the place. The Corinth Canal separates the Peloponnese Peninsula and the Greek mainland – at a width of approximately 6 kilometres, it connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf. Its importance is undeniable as plans to build this waterway first occurred in the 6th century BCE but it could not be built because it would be too complicated at the time. It was made possible by the invention of dynamite in the 19th century – the canal was completed in just three years between 1891 and 1893.
Building the Corinth Canal saved ships from an almost 400 kilometres detour around the entire Peloponnese. The canal itself is 84 metres deep, which makes it a spectacular sight for the many visitors that go there every year. Being a conical shape, it is 75 metres wide at the top but only 21 to 24 metres wide at the bottom with the water level rising to 8 metres.
So how will this marvel look in our representation of Greece in ETS2? Well, almost exactly the same of course! Our map designers recreated the major bridges that go across the canal, with two tailored for road traffic and one for the railroad. In the surrounding area, truckers can rest at a nearby gas station and also a rest stop. Apart from that, you will also be able to find a viewpoint so that drivers can admire this landmark in all its glory!
We hope you are looking forward to this map expansion finally arriving. If you are, make sure to add the Greece DLC to your Steam Wishlist. Remember that the content you see in this blog is still a work in progress and may change until this DLC’s release.
