We have known for a while, Call of Duty Vanguard will offer a more human single player campaign, going further in the treatment of its characters. The developers of Sledgehammer Games indeed promise a more developed backstory for the protagonists that we will play in turn, but the other characters that we will meet will not be devoid of interest. Proof of this is with the presentation of soldier Daniel Take Yatsu who is entitled to an official presentation video. Taking on the role of a sniper during the war, he is shared by his origins, both American and Japanese, which makes him a very complex person. If he has chosen his side and serves the American flag, his story is deeply rooted in one of the most shameful chapters of American history: that of the detention of Japanese citizens in concentration camps in the United States during of World War II. Daniel’s world fell apart when his family was deported. Like many Japanese-American citizens, he was drafted into the military to protect a nation that didn’t even consider him a full citizen. Daniel has mixed feelings about the war and his nation, but he still fights to protect his comrades and the nation that America may someday become.
The release of Call of Duty Vanguard is expected on November 5 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4 and Xbox One.
