Award-winning indie horror RPG Mothership is getting a boxed set

Mothership, the award-winning tabletop role-playing game, is getting a proper boxed starter set. The product will be funded on Kickstarter with a campaign that goes live on Nov. 2. Publisher Tuesday Knight Games made the announcement on Tuesday.

First published in 2018, Mothership was written and illustrated by Sean McCoy and inspired by franchises like Alien, Dead Space, and films like Event Horizon. In it, players take on the role of the teamsters, scientists, androids, and marines exploring near-future outer space. The rules-lite system gets players up and running quickly, with single-page instructions for both character and starship creation. It’s also particularly deadly, with many campaigns designed with a glorious total party kill in mind.

Mothership rose to prominence in 2019 when, at the Gen Con gaming convention, Mothership: Player’s Survival Guide won the Ennie Award for best game. That same year, Mothership module Dead Planet also won the silver Ennie Award award for best adventure. Since that time it’s remained one of the most popular indie TRPGs around, regularly ranking among the best-selling products on DriveThruRPG.

You can get a physical copy of Mothership: Player’s Survival Guide for $14.99 on the Tuesday Knight Games online storefront, which also comes bundled with a free PDF. The PDF alone is also available as a pay-what-you-want download on DriveThruRPG. Fans can sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter campaign goes live.
