Three months ago, we speculated about which “4” from 2K Games would be revealed first. And at the opening of Gamescom, they showcased both Borderlands 4 and, more intriguingly for us, the fourth “Mafia”.
There is no number in the title — it’s a prequel named Mafia: The Old Country. Interestingly, this designation appeared in the first chapter of the second installment when Vito visited Sicily as a soldier during World War II. This time, we’re not only returning to the island but also traveling several decades back to the 1900s. Reacting to rumors about a return to the roots, we doubted the success of such a setting due to the issue of vehicles. It will be interesting to see how the developers (the game is being developed by the American studio Hangar 13, which created the third part) surprise us.
The teaser states that more information about the new release will be revealed in December. However, a Mafia: The Old Country page has already appeared on Steam with the first screenshots and a release date set for the significant year of 2025. But this may not be final, and hopefully neither is the list of supported languages. Because right now, it’s a mess. The new “Mafia” will be dubbed in English (obviously), Spanish (spoken by half the world), French, German, Czech (a tribute to the series’ founding fathers?), and… Russian. But they aren’t planning to dub it in the most authentic language for this project — Italian! Nor will they add sound, text, or subtitles in Ukrainian. However, our gaming community will still work on this issue.
For those unfamiliar with the Mafia series or wanting to refresh their memory, there’s a thematic sale on Steam, running until September 2:
- Mafia — 67% off,
- Mafia: Definitive Edition — 80% off,
- Mafia 2: Definitive Edition — 75% off,
- Mafia 3: Definitive Edition — 75% off,
- Mafia: Trilogy (buying the bundle is more profitable than buying separately) — 75% off.
