AI-based mod banned by Take-Two

Artificial intelligence has become available to almost every Internet user, and there is nothing surprising in the fact that it has been used in various fields. Including, as it turned out this month, in the creation of modifications for Grand Theft Auto.

In early August, a mod for gta 5 called Sentient Streets (“Reasonable Streets”). He talks about a cop who has to face the followers of the NihiAIists cult, who consider a certain AI to be their deity. The highlight of the modification is that it uses this same artificial intelligence. As a police officer, you are free to talk to colleagues, suspects and civilians – any NPC you meet. To do this, just start a conversation (key T) and actually speak into the microphone (holding N). Next, the achievements of modern AI come into play, which generates answers suitable for your remarks. Of course, everything does not work perfectly (like any AI), mistakes and repetitions happen, but in general this is a good implementation of an interesting idea.

The basis is the system Inworld, which is responsible for the creation of characters, their characters and temperament. Dialogues and voices ElevenLabs. In total, “more than 30 AI models” are used, which makes the mod extremely flexible and variable. It is not surprising that such a project was of interest to large gaming media – they wrote about it VGC, PC Gamers, IGN, Eurogamer and others.

And, as already happened beforeafter such attention, the copyright holder banned the distribution of Sentient Streets, taking care to remove pages on nexusmods.comcopyright video demonstrations on YouTubeand installation instructions (Installation here is not common). On some resources, the author of Bloc himself removed the mod, although he does not agree that he violated anything.

So if you have GTA, RDR, or other R* gameplay videos on your channel, T2 may remove them without your knowledge. YouTube just doesn’t care.

In addition, in the comments given by the same IGN And Eurogamer, the innovator (this work can certainly be called a breakthrough in its niche) says that he made the project just for fun (he did not even leave a link to his Patreon in the descriptions) and does not have the resources for judicial red tape. Bloc also believes that developers themselves can implement something similar in the future, but it is unlikely that this will be implemented already in GTA 6 – rather, only in mods for her.
