Riot Games’ highly anticipated League of Legends MMO has received its first major development update of the year. Raymond Bartos, a veteran producer formerly with World of Warcraft, has announced that he is joining the ambitious project. His transition to Riot signals a reunion with former colleague Orlando Salvatore; the two previously collaborated on several high-profile WoW features, including the experimental Plunderstorm mode and the comprehensive gear update system.
“From my very first interaction with the Riot team,” Bartos shared via Twitter/X, “I was immediately drawn to their internal culture. I was genuinely impressed by how their core values were reflected throughout the recruitment process. It’s clear that kindness, respect, and professional care aren’t just slogans here—they are principles the team truly embodies.”
Bartos joins the Riot MMO team as a Senior Game Producer, building on his experience as a Lead Producer for World of Warcraft. In his farewell address to Blizzard last year, he expressed pride in his contributions to Plunderstorm, the Remix events, Dungeon Followers, and the game’s massive 20th Anniversary celebration.
Many of these successful WoW features also featured contributions from former lead software engineer Orlando Salvatore. Bartos noted his excitement about rekindling their professional partnership, stating, “Given our successful track record on World of Warcraft, I have a feeling we’ll be hitting the ground running from day one.”
The gaming community has often joked about the League of Legends MMO being a “mythical” project due to its long development cycle and minimal public updates. However, the addition of seasoned industry veterans like Bartos suggests that production is active and moving forward. Whether this ambitious expansion of the Runeterra universe will meet fan expectations remains a question for the future.
