Neil Newbon slams AI, claiming it could never replicate Baldur’s Gate 3: “It’s too human”

“This stands as a testament, everyone: forget AI,” Newbon declared. “A machine could never replicate a game like this. It is far too nuanced, chaotic, emotionally resonant, and unpredictable. It is simply too human. There is absolutely no way AI could capture this magic.”

While the industry has largely accepted AI for mundane task automation, its application in creative fields like writing, art, and acting remains a fierce battleground. Even Larian Studios, which briefly explored AI for concept art during the development of Divinity, has since pivoted completely, committing to a future free of generative shortcuts.

On a related note: Larian has previously joked about their commitment to manual detail, assuring fans that everything—even the most intimate character models—is “handcrafted with love” by their dedicated team.
