Acclaimed French actress Léa Seydoux has officially signed on for the upcoming horror feature The Masque of the Red Death, according to a report from Deadline.
She joins Mikey Madison, the breakout star of Anora, who was previously announced as the project’s lead. The film will be written and directed by Charlie Polinger (Plague). Based on the legendary short story by Edgar Allan Poe, this adaptation is being described as a “modern” and “darkly comedic” reimagining of the source material.
Poe’s original Gothic masterpiece follows Prince Prospero, who attempts to evade a devastating plague known as the Red Death by barricading himself and his wealthy companions inside a secluded abbey. A24 is set to handle the film’s distribution, though an official release window has yet to be disclosed.
Seydoux recently starred in the drama Silent Friend, which debuted in competition at the Venice Film Festival. That film is expected to reach international audiences starting in February 2025.
