Lil Wayne has officially joined Hoosier Nation in spirit this week. Following Indiana University’s monumental triumph in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday (Jan. 19)—the first in the program’s history—the hip-hop icon took to social media to salute the team’s grit and execution.

Joining a chorus of enthusiasts celebrating the Hoosiers’ historic rise, Wayne offered high praise for head coach Curt Cignetti and standout quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the 2025 Heisman Trophy recipient. Expressing his admiration on X (formerly Twitter), the rapper wrote, “Bignetti a Gangsta out there mayne!!! Great win!”

Wayne’s commentary took a cinematic turn as he observed the chemistry between the coach and his star player. “They can change the Heisman Trophy to Mendoza stretching across the goal line!” he remarked, adding, “Why him and Coach look like they can star in their own version of Goodfellas?! I fwi.”

The star-studded support for Indiana didn’t end with Weezy. As the Hoosiers narrowly defeated the Miami Hurricanes 27-21, Indiana’s own rock legend John Mellencamp showcased his school pride on Instagram, posting a photo in an IU letterman jacket with an enthusiastic “GO HOOSIERS!” message. Meanwhile, Lil Uzi Vert was spotted at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium sporting a Mendoza jersey, having attended as a personal guest of the quarterback.

While Wayne is currently cheering for the “Cream and Crimson,” his football heart typically beats for the Green Bay Packers. His vocal nature as a “Cheesehead” recently sparked a brief online stir after he criticized Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams following an NFL playoff matchup. However, Wayne quickly followed up with a show of respect, acknowledging Williams as a “beast” on the field despite the rivalry.
