Valve Removes Horror About a Game with Dead Multiplayer from Steam — Developers Will Fight to Save “No Players Online”

Legal concerns have emerged around the new project.

No Players Online was recently released on Steam. Shortly after launch, the game was pulled from sale and its Steam page removed.

Beeswax Games stated that they received a DMCA takedown notice and are currently investigating the matter:

We were dismayed to learn that the NPO project was removed from sale due to a DMCA copyright complaint. We will not disclose the parties involved because of potential legal proceedings, but we strongly believe the claim is without merit. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. It is regrettable that the game was taken down immediately after release and the launch of our ARG, but we promise to restore the game as soon as we can.

In No Players Online, players are invited to explore a desktop PC and an abandoned shooter:

Immerse yourself in a fully realized virtual 1990s desktop environment. Download games from an obscure forum, examine files left by the previous owner, and peel back digital layers to uncover the conspiracy behind a mysterious capture-the-flag game.
