Tori Amos achieves her tenth top 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart – and highest charting effort in over a decade – as her new album Ocean to Ocean debuts at No. 6 (on the chart dated Nov. 13). The set, which was released on Oct. 29, is the singer-songwriter’s first new full-length studio album since 2017.
Ocean to Ocean sold 9,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 4, according to MRC Data. Amos last went higher on the list in 2007 with the No. 5 debut and peak of American Doll Posse (May 19, 2007-dated chart).

Ocean to Ocean is one of nine albums that debut in the top 10 on the latest Top Album Sales chart, which is led by the chart-topping arrival of Ed Sheeran’s latest release, =.
Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now MRC Data. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. Of Ocean to Ocean’s 9,000 copies sold in its first week, physical sales comprise nearly 7,000 (all from its CD releases) and digital sales comprise a little over 2,000 sold. Ocean to Ocean is scheduled to be released on vinyl LP in 2022.
Ocean to Ocean also starts at No. 9 on the Top Alternative Albums chart with nearly 10,000 equivalent album units earned. It’s her fifth top 10 on the tally.
At No. 1 on Top Album Sales, Ed Sheeran’s = starts with 68,000 copies sold, marking his fourth leader on the list. It’s the second-largest sales week for an album released in 2021 by a male artist, trailing only the opening week of Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album (74,000; chart dated Jan. 23). Sheeran’s = also debuts at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart, with nearly 9,000 sold in its first week. It’s his second No. 1 on Vinyl Albums, following ÷ (five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2017 and 2018).
As previously reported, = also enters atop the Billboard 200 chart – launching as Sheeran’s fourth No. 1 on that tally.
Back on Top Album Sales, Grateful Dead scores its best sales week for an album in over 25 years. The band’s latest live archival release, Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40: Deer Creek Music Center, Noblesville, IN 7/18/90 & 7/19/90, debuts at No. 2 with nearly 23,000 copies sold. (It was issued exclusively as a four-CD set, and limited to 25,000 numbered copies.) Grateful Dead last had an album sell more copies in the week ending Dec. 24, 1995, when Hundred Year Hall sold 25,000.
Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40’s debut at No. 2 on Top Album Sales ties Grateful Dead’s highest rank on the 30-year-old list. The group reached No. 2 four times previously – all with other Dave’s Picks titles.
On the overall Billboard 200 chart, Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40 arrives at No. 13 – granting Grateful Dead its highest debut ever, and highest charting album since 1987’s In the Dark peaked at No. 6 (Aug. 22, 1987-dated chart, fueled in large part by the band’s lone top 10, or even top 40, Billboard Hot 100 hit, the No. 9-peaking “Touch of Grey”). All told, Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40 is the group’s third-highest charting album on the Billboard 200, behind In the Dark and Blues for Allah (No. 12; Oct. 25, 1975).
Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40 also marks Grateful Dead’s landmark 50th top 40-charting album on the Billboard 200. The band continues to have the most top 40 albums among groups since the chart began regularly publishing on a weekly basis in March of 1956. The only acts with more top 40 albums than Grateful Dead are Frank Sinatra (58), Elvis Presley (57), Barbra Streisand (54) and Bob Dylan (51).
Dave’s Picks, Vol. 40 additionally enters at No. 1 on Top Rock Albums, marking the act’s fourth leader on the list.
Continuing on Top Album Sales, rock band Mastodon debuts at No. 3 with Hushed and Grim, scoring the group its fifth top 10 on the chart. The new release, which marks the act’s ninth full-length studio album, sold 18,000 copies in its first week in the U.S. Of that sum, 5,000 came via vinyl LP, enabling the set’s No. 3 debut on the Vinyl Albums chart.
The War on Drugs’ I Don’t Live Here Anymore debuts at a career-high No. 4 on Top Album Sales. It’s the first album in over four years for the act, and it enters with 16,000 copies sold. The group previously topped out at No. 5 with the debut week of A Deeper Understanding (Sept. 16, 2017-dated chart). I Don’t Live Here Anymore sold nearly 9,000 copies on vinyl, and it also bows at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart.
Megan Thee Stallion’s Something for Thee Hotties debuts at No. 5 on Top Album Sales with nearly 10,000 sold (all from digital album sales) and Amos’ Ocean to Ocean starts at No. 6 with 9,000.
Joe Bonamassa’s latest studio album, Time Clocks, punches in at No. 7 with nearly 8,000 copies sold. It’s the fifth top 10 for the singer and guitarist. The album also enters atop the Blues Albums chart, where it marks Bonamassa’s record-extending 25th leader on the 26-year-old list.
The Beatles’ former Top Album Sales No. 1 Let It Be rises 9-8 with 7,500 copies sold (down 32%).
Pink Floyd’s A Momentary Lapse of Reason debuts at No. 9 on the 30-year-old Top Album Sales chart (a little over 7,000 sold), following its reissue on Oct. 29 in a “remixed and updated” edition. The original album was released in 1987 and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Rounding out the new top 10 on Top Album Sales is Pentatonix’s latest holiday album, Evergreen. It bows at No. 10 with 7,000 sold. It’s the 13th top 10 album for the vocal group on Top Album Sales, and of those, seven have been holiday albums.
