The Warriors Could Have Been Released on Game Boy Advance and Bully on Nintendo DS

In the mid-2000s, Rockstar games were actively being released on a wide variety of consoles, many more than we see today. As it turns out, two Rockstar classics could have visited even more platforms. Former employees of the company revealed this information anonymously.

The Warriors (2005) was also released on PlayStation Portable, but Rockstar Leeds did more than just work on a version for the Game Boy Advance; they actually completed it, although it never saw a release. It was developed on the same engine used to port Max Payne to the GBA.

Max Payne on the Game Boy Advance looked significantly different from other versions.

We created a four-player cooperative mode using wired connectivity. We finished the game. It was fun to play. At that time, the PSP was gaining popularity, and Nintendo wasn’t heavily advertising M-rated (Mature) projects. We were comfortable with Sony, so we released The Warriors directly on their portable console.

Another source claims that the Leeds division was also working on another port—Bully (2006) for the Nintendo DS. However, the project was never completed because the studio got reassigned to another video game, possibly L.A. Noire.

We were working on Bully for the Nintendo DS right after GTA: Chinatown Wars. It had the same top-down view, but the development didn’t progress far.
